What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation is a technique that corrects changes in the vagina due to aging, childbirth and hormonal changes. These treatments can address vaginal laxity, urinary incontinence, dryness and decreased sensation. Most often, sexual rejuvenation treatments use radiofrequency or laser energy to strengthen the vaginal tissue. Enter ThermiVa, a device for performing temperature-controlled radiofrequency therapy (TTCRF) at the vulvovaginal region.
How does ThermiVa it work?
ThermiVa is a quick and painless alternative to surgical vaginal rejuvenation that uses a special radiofrequency device to tighten loose vaginal tissue. It works by carefully monitoring and regulating the temperature that is delivered to the deeper layer of tissue. This treatment method has many positive results, including the stimulation of tissue through contractions, increasing sensation, and the promotion of collagen production.
Typically, patients will require three treatments, carried out every three to four weeks. Many patients experience some improvement in symptoms after only one treatment. Once the initial course of treatments has ended, patients can have maintenance treatments every 6 to 12 months.
Radiofrequency (RF) technology has been used successfully in aesthetic medicine, along with lasers, for rejuvenation or tightening of skin at the face, neck, chest, and other body parts.
Additionally, ThermiVa may prove to be an ideal option for women who experience one or more of the following conditions:
- Vaginal dryness/chafing/itching
- Frequent vaginal/urinary tract infections
- Lack of friction or sensation during sex
- Painful intercourse
What are the results?
The reported result is tightening of vulva and vaginal wall tissues including the mucosa and fascia, leading to a more youthful appearing vulva. The newer, healthier tissue is stronger and more resistant to tearing; restoration of vaginal elasticity and ‘tightness’ is reported along with improved lubrication and transudate production, and reduction in overactive bladder symptoms. Women with orgasmic dysfunction have regained the ability to achieve orgasms quicker after treatments.
ThermiVa also has been shown to help women reduce or eliminate leaky bladder symptoms (a condition known clinically as stress urinary incontinence) and improve sexual dysfunction/pleasure.
